After checking out of our Rotorua accommodation on Day 3 of our Art Deco24 tour, we headed to the north side of the city to visit the 3D Trick-art gallery, a unique attraction boasting 53 optical illusion paintings. These artworks allowed us to step into the scene, making it appear as though we were scaling treacherous mountains, riding alpacas, or teetering on the edge of an icy precipice.
As the only 3D Art Gallery in New Zealand, this exhibit promised to blow our minds, offering an immersive experience right in the heart of Rotorua’s action. Located within the Heritage Farm Experience, it is the first of its kind in the country.
Unlike traditional art museums, the 3D Trick-art gallery encourages interaction, allowing us to touch and engage with the artwork. It was a refreshing departure from the usual “look but don’t touch” mentality of art galleries. With its vibrant and playful atmosphere, the gallery is perfect for families looking for a unique and entertaining activity. We found ourselves laughing and marvelling at the clever illusions, making it an ideal spot to spend the morning.
If you’re seeking something out of the ordinary in Rotorua, the 3D Trick-art gallery is an absolute must-visit.
