Apr 23: Taste of Tasmania” Tour
After having breakfast at The Boardwalk Bistro, we headed out early to the Salamanca Markets. Every Saturday, Hobart transforms into a vibrant tapestry of colours, flavours, and local culture. Set close to Hobarts waterfront, The Salamanca Markets are a huge part of life in Hobart. Nestled against the backdrop of historic sandstone warehouses in Salamanca Place, this weekly gathering has become an iconic and essential experience for both locals and visitors. From the crack of dawn, the air is filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, sizzling street food, and the sweet notes of live music.
Hundreds of stalls line the streets, closed to vehicles. Souvenirs, arts & crafts, produce, wine and gin, and food vendors of all sorts can be found here. Strolling through the market feels like embarking on a treasure hunt, discovering one-of-a-kind finds at every turn. We spent a good two and a half hours shopping and sampling the wares, before heading back to the hotel for a midday break.
Whether you’re a seasoned local or a first-time visitor, the Saturday Salamanca Market is an immersion into the soul of Hobart. It’s a celebration of creativity, community, and the unique charm that makes Tasmania an unforgettable destination.
