On the morning of Day 1 we are collected from our Whangarei homes, and head to our Auckland Airport hotel (1 night).
The following day, we will catch a morning flight to Kuala Lumpur (3 nights), a vibrant metropolis blending tradition and modernity. Here we explore KL and visit the iconic Petronas Towers.
On Day 5, we arrive in Colombo and travel to Negombo (1 night), a coastal town known for its historic churches, narrow streets, and famous lagoon. Enjoy a relaxing introduction to Sri Lanka’s culture and fisherman’s life.
On Day 6, we head to Dambulla (4 nights), where we explore some of Sri Lanka’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Anuradhapura, where we’ll wander through ancient ruins and visit the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, an excursion to Polonnaruwa and a safari at the Minneriya National Park, known for its large elephant gatherings. We will also visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress, where those who wish can climb to the top for sweeping jungle views. To add a local touch, we’ll explore a nearby village, get a glimpse of traditional Sri Lankan life, and enjoy a bullock cart ride through lush paddy fields.
Day 10 takes us to Kandy (2 nights), stopping at a spice garden in Matale. In Kandy, we will visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most sacred sites in Buddhism, followed by a stroll through Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.
Next, on Day 12, we travel to Nuwara Eliya (2 nights), often called “Little England.” Enjoy a Ceylon Tea Tour where we will explore the tea estates, learn about tea production, and savour a cup of freshly made Ceylon tea.
On Day 14, we continue to Bentota (4 nights), where we explore Galle Fort, another UNESCO site. We also visit a turtle hatchery, experience the Madu River wetlands with a boat ride and enjoy a day of leisure by the ocean.
Finally, on Day 18, we return to Colombo (1 night) for a city tour, visiting sites such as Independence Square and Gangarama Temple, and conclude the day with a farewell dinner. The next day, enjoy a free day in Colombo before heading to the airport the same evening for our flight back home.
We arrive in Auckland on the morning of Day 21 and depart the big city and head home to Whangarei.
