On Day 1 we are collected from our Whangarei homes and drive to Auckland, staying in Auckland overnight before we take flight for the Orient with a direct flight to Tokyo.

We will have 4 nights in Tokyo where we will spend time exploring this amazing city of contrasts, with two different city tours, a night food tour and a day trip to Mt Fuji. On Day 6 we will take the Shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto (4 nights), taking in this remarkable cultural centre of Japan. We will enjoy a private full day Kyoto tour, a traditional tea ceremony, and a Samurai experience, as well as a food and cultural night tour in the Gion.

On Day 10 we will travel to Osaka (6 nights) exploring much of the region from here. As well as private tours in Osaka, we will also visit Nara’s famous deer park and Nara Machi; Kobe with a sake brewery tour and one of Japan’s oldest cities Uji. There will be the opportunity for an optional additional day trip to Hiroshima or you can enjoy a free day at your leisure.

On Day 16 we will make our way to Kanazawa (2 nights) and we visit the world-famous UNESCO village on our full-day Shirakawa- go and Kanazawa tour.

On Day 18 we will depart Kanazawa and take the Shinkansen back to Tokyo (1 night). On our penultimate day we will make our way to Narita Airport in the afternoon ready for our overnight flight to Auckland. We will meet our YMAF shuttle in the late morning on Day 20 and drive north, returning to our homes in Whangarei in the early afternoon.
