On Day one we are collected from our Whangarei homes and set off to Auckland Airport for an overnight flight to Dubai, followed by an early morning flight to Casablanca the following day.
After being guided around Casablanca’s most impressive sites, we drive along the coast to Rabat to explore the lovely walled quarter known as the Kasbah des Oudaias. We continue to Meknes, then arrive in one of the worlds prettiest cities – Chefchaouen, famous for its buildings in bright shades of blue. Our next destination is Fes – the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco.
We leave the city behind for the desert oasis town of Erfoud – our gateway to the Sahara Desert, where we will ride camels at sunrise, and enjoy a traditional feast beneath the sky jewelled with thousands of stars, while listening to live Gnaoua music around an open fire.
We then drive to Todra Gorge– a massive trench that rises over 250 metres to form one of the most dramatic and spectacular natural sights in Morocco. We continue to Dades Valley, before setting off on the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to arrive in Ait Benhaddou – a hilltop site almost unchanged since the 11th century. Our next destination is Ouirgane, nestled in the tranquil foothills of the High Atlas Mountains.
Our final destination is Marrakech, where we will have the opportunity to visit the great square of Djemaa el-Fna – one of the largest public spaces in the world. We will embark on a guided tour, as well as have plenty of free time to enjoy and explore at our own pace.
We then fly home via Casablanca and Dubai, arriving in Auckland to shuttle back to our homes in Whangarei.
