We start with pick up from our Whangarei Homes, then head to Auckland where we catch a flight to Christchurch (2 nights). We start our South Island Odessey with a trip to Akaroa Peninsula, NZ’s French outpost and get on the water for the first time on the Akaroa Harbour.
From Christchurch we travel further south to Oamaru (1 night) where we visit the Blue Penguin Colony. Then it is on further to Dunedin (2 nights). Whilst in NZ’s Scottish colony we will trip out to the Otago Peninsula in search of albatrosses and castles.
Next, we head into the Catlins area (2 nights). This stunning coastland is a NZ must-do; wild, rugged and absolutely stunning. Arriving the other end at Invercargill, we hop on a short flight to NZ’s third island – Stewart Island (3 nights). Whilst here we explore the island and the surrounding area by land and sea.
Having reached the southernmost tip of NZ, we turn back north – flying back to Invercargill then travelling overland to Te Anau (3 nights). Te Anau is the gateway to Fiordland National Park and will be our base as we go first into Milford Sound, then Doubtful Sound.
After this it is on to Queenstown (1 night). Here you will have some time to explore Queenstown at your leisure – or your adventure – before we fly back to Auckland and meet our van for the homeward leg to Whangarei
