The Nutcracker

Hosted Day Tour

Departing Sat 6th Dec 25

On the morning of the tour meet us at the Whangarei Club at 8.30am, where we will load into the van and drive to Auckland, with a brief stop at Wellsford on the way. We will arrive in Auckland in plenty of time to grab lunch (at your own cost), then make our way to the Kiri Te Kanawa theatre in the Aotea Centre for the 1.30pm matinee performance of the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s presentation of The Nutcracker.

Central to Christmas memories for generations of audiences, The Nutcracker is a timeless celebration of family, fantasy and growing up, where ‘home for Christmas’ is the most powerful magic of all. A uniquely Kiwi touch transports audiences to the nostalgia of childhood holidays at the beach in Act I, before being carried in Act II to the snowy Southern Alps, where we encounter a fairytale Kingdom of the Sweets – some of which may look quite familiar. This new production will be created by RNZB Artistic Director Ty King-Wall, with costume designs by Tracy Grant-Lord (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Firebird), lighting design by Jon Buswell (Swan Lake, The Firebird, Hansel & Gretel) visual effects by POW Studios (Cinderella, Hansel & Gretel), driven by the timeless magic of Tchaikovsky’s wonderful music.

After the show, we will return to the van to share some refreshments, then drive home; stopping at Warkworth for dinner before arriving into Whangarei at around 8.30pm.

…a ballet that is truly spell-binding!

Oh my gosh, we all had a fantastic day out. Thank you so much. I really didn’t expect to like all those weird and wonderful snacks during the "Curious Food Train" activity, and didn’t think they would all participate. The staff all keep thanking us for such a great day. Looking forward to next years event!
