On the morning of day one we are collected from our Whangarei homes and travel to Auckland Airport, then fly to Melbourne (1 night) The following morning, we fly to Broome (3 nights) to begin our incredible outback adventure.
On day 3 we join our 10-day fully hosted Kimberley & Bungle Bungle experience. We start our journey in Broome with a visit to a pearl farm, Gantheaume Point, Cable Beach, Roebuck Bay and travel by boat to Yawuru sacred site to see and stand in 120-million-year-old dinosaur footprints. After a visit to the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park, we continue to Derby (2 nights) on the edge of King Sound.
On the morning of day 6 you will step on board a turbo prop seaplane and enjoy flight to the spectacular Horizontal Falls. Experience the thrill of riding through the first falls on the fastest boat in the Kimberley before cruising through the spectacular untouched surrounding bays and creeks and enjoying lunch onboard. You may even want a swim in the croc and shark free cage! We’ll take a low-level scenic flight over the Buccaneer Archipelago and King Sound as we return to Derby and once back set up our deck chairs and enjoy the sunset at Derby Jetty.
We have 1 night at Fitzroy Crossing before Kununurra – the gateway to the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park). Instead of long hours driving on bumpy roads, we will again be treated to an incredible flight over the world heritage listed Purnululu National Park to viewthe Bungle Bungle Range, Lake Argyle, the Argyle Diamond Mine, Carr Boyd Ranges, Osmond Ranges, the Ord River, and Bow River before landing at the remote unsealed Bellburn Airstrip.
We will also walk throughout the famous eroded towers and black and orange banded beehive domes of the Bungle Bungle Range to Cathedral Gorge a large natural amphitheatre and will also take in the sheer magnitude of Purnululu National Park with an 18-minute scenic helicopter flight!
We fly over the iconic Kimberley landmarks of the Mitchell Plateau and Mitchell Falls, soaring over the beautifully patterned mudflats near Wyndham, the King River, Berkeley River Gorge, King George Falls, and Kalumburu to the remote Mitchell Plateau Airstrip. It is then either a walk or helicopter ride to the top of Mitchell Falls, and after a picnic lunch we all helicopter back down.
We also visit Mirima National Park or the Mini Bungle Bungles with its 350-million-year-old rock formations.
From Kununurra we fly to Darwin (2nights) and enjoy this beautiful city, before an overnight stop in Sydney (1night), before returning to Auckland and shuttle back to our Whangarei homes.
