Hosted Tour: 6 days / 5 nights

Our tour starts with your host/driver picking you up from your central Whangarei home, then drive to Miranda (1 night), stopping along the way for a browse of Clevedon and taking in the scenic route along the Firth of Thames. Upon arrival at Miranda we’ll visit the Pukorokoro Shorebird Sanctuary before heading to our accommodation.
The next day, continue south to Ngatea Water Gardens – a sculpture park with a sense of humour – and spend an afternoon and evening in Thames (1 night), including the historic Grahamstown precinct.
Our Road Trip continues along a short distance to Paeroa (1 night), world famous in New Zealand for L&P, and a veritable mecca of antique stores and curio shopping. We’ll also peruse the Historical Maritime Park and enjoy a picnic lunch here.
The following day takes us through the spectacular Karangahake Gorge. Take stops along the way to explore the rail tunnel and view the various remains of the Gold industry in this area, then enjoy lunch at the Waikino Hotel before exploring the Victoria Battery Tramway & Museum. We’ll finish up the day in Waihi (2 nights), our final stop along the tour. Whilst in Waihi we’ll uncover the gold mining past and present and generally discover this jewel in the Hauraki crown.
After two wonderful nights in Waihi, we will drive you back home to Whangarei.
