Our voyage begins at the Whangarei Club, where we meet and load into our van to head to Auckland. After a coffee stop at Wellsford we arrive in central Auckland for our first port of call – the Titanic: The Human Story Exhibition. Created by Musealia and Titanic historian and expert Claes-Göran Wetterholm, this experience separates fact from fiction like never before. An audio guide serves as the narrator throughout the experience. Testimonies of passengers and crew will take you back to 1912. Unravel the true story of the ship as you embark on a trip through time bringing you closer to the myths, stories and the real history of the Titanic.
After this experience, it’s time for lunch at your choice of mess halls – either Elliott Stables or the nearby Atrium International Food Court. After lunch we’ll drive to Auckland’s revamped Viaduct Area, home to the National Maritime Museum. The museum houses one of the nation’s most important heritage collections, which covers the breadth of our relationship with the sea; from the Great Pacific Migration a thousand years ago to the cutting edge of modern technology and design used in America’s Cup and modern yachting. Whether you are a lifelong yachtie or someone who has never before set foot on a boat, you will find relevance and personal connections to the stories and taonga of the New Zealand Maritime Museum.
After discovering our maritime heritage, join your Host back at the van for refreshments before heading home.
