Hosted Tour: 8 days / 7 nights

On Tuesday we depart early from your central Whangarei homes and head south. For this tour there is also the option of joining us in Hamilton, with pick-up from your letter box included. We will stop at the end of Day 1 in Taupo (2 nights). On Wednesday we explore Taupo, including a lake cruise on the Ernest Kemp steamboat replica, plus a visit to a unique Meadery. You also have the option of joining your host for an evening soak in the spectacular Wairakei Terraces thermal pools.
On Thursday morning, we take some time to explore the Wairakei Terraces thermal landscape just outside of Taupo, before continuing on to Napier (4 nights) to catch some of the Art Deco opening festivities. On Friday morning we travel the outlying areas of Napier with visits to 2 renowned wineries for tastings and lunch amongst the vines. In the afternoon we head into town for the first of our Art Deco Events.
On Saturday, we spend a big day at the festival, with activities including the fantastic Ritz Street Party. On the Sunday, we assemble in the domain for the Tremain’s traditional picnic in the park, then say farewell to the festival in style with another Deco event.
On Monday, we depart Napier early, to head to the magical land of Hobbiton, where we take a tour through the world famous movie set of Bag End. We then go across to Hamilton (1 night). Here we will say goodbye to our Hamilton guests.
For those continuing on to Whangarei, say goodbye to Hamilton on Tuesday, and head towards home. On the way we have one last stop at the Chelsea Sugar Factory – an Auckland institution since 1884. Here you have the option to take a tour of the factory and we will have lunch at the on-site café before continuing on home to Whangarei.
