On the morning of day one we are collected from our Whangarei homes and travel to Auckland Airport (1 night) before a morning flight to Singapore (2 nights). While in
Singapore we’ll have a whole day at the magical Gardens by the Bay, some free time and you may choose to lunch on Sentosa Island on day two.
We fly overnight to Brussels (4 nights) exploring this beautiful city. We have a guided tour at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and spend a day at the Floralia International Flower Festival in the private park of Groot-Bijgaarden Castle.
Then it is off to Bruges (4 nights) via a lunch stop in the town of Ghent. We’ll see Bruges from the water on a canal boat ride and visit the BRUSK Art Gallery. You will have a free day to explore more of this stunning city, maybe taking in a visit to Kantwerkstersplein – Lace Makers’ Square.
Departing Belgium, we travel to the Dutch town of Leiden (5 nights). This is our base from which we will discover the glorious blooms of springtime in Holland. Leiden is the birthplace of Rembrandt, and we visit his first studio where he learnt to paint. There will be a day trip to Delft for a guided tour of the Royal Delft Blue Factory and Museum and a free afternoon to explore the city centre.
We visit Hortus Botanicus one of the world’s oldest botanic gardens and have a very special day at the 80th celebration of the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek Flower Parade as part of Holland’s Spectacular Spring Festival.
From the village of Leiden, we travel to the city of Amsterdam (5 nights). We visit the Rijksmuseum and enjoy a sunset wine & cheese canal cruise and a tour to Zaanse Schans, a beautiful historic mill village where people practice several traditional crafts including weaving, watch making, chocolate making and of course clogs and cheese making.
No trip to The Netherlands in spring would be complete without a day trip to Keukenhof, one of the world’s largest flower gardens and the jewel in the spring bloom crown. along with a visit to a working tulip farm, and a canal ride alongside the tulip fields and windmills.
Our final day will be free day to rest and relax or explore more. You may fancy an early start to visit the FloraHolland Aalsmeer Flower Auction, or a more relaxed start to the day and visit Anne Frank’s House, the Von Gough Museum or the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market.
On day 22 we say ‘tot ziens’ to Europe and return to Singapore for a short airport stay then carry on to Auckland on an overnight flight.
We’ll be met by our YMAF van and driver and driven back to our central Whangarei homes.
