Hosted Tour: 24 days / 23 nights

On the morning of Day 1 we are collected from our Whangarei homes and travel to Auckland Airport (1 night) and on to Seoul (3 nights) We will have a city tour in Seoul, a day out to the DMZ and savour the flavours of Korea with a food tour.

From Seoul, we fly to Kansai Airport and stay in Kyoto (5 nights) to experience this cultural jewel of Japan. We will experience full day city tour of both Kyoto and Osaka, as well as a food and cultural night tour in the Gion and visit Nara’s famous deer park.

On to Japan’s capital city Tokyo (4 nights) where we will explore the old and new parts of the city and enjoy a local food tour and some free time. From Tokyo, we catch the bullet train north to Akita (1 night) and the following morning embark on a 5-hour Shirakami Scenic Train. The train offers live cultural performances along the route and stops at various scenic spots alongside the Shirakami Mountains and the Sea of Japan.

We stay in Aomori (2 nights), then leave the island of Honshu and train (part of this journey is via an underwater tunnel) to Japan’s northernmost island, Hokkaido (5 nights). We will see much of what the Hokkaido has to offer including the islands largest city Sapporo, visit the stunning port city of Otaru, and Noboribetsu, Lake Toya and Niseko. There is also the option to visit the flower fields of Biei & Furano.

We will return to Seoul from Sapporo, and after another day in Seoul we board an overnight flight to Auckland, where we meet our shuttle to take us back to our homes in Whangarei.
