Our expedition starts with pick up from our Whangarei homes on Day one, then drive to Auckland where we board an overnight flight to Los Angeles (1 night). Here we take a day to recuperate, before flying on to our first stop in Central America – Mexico City (3 nights). Explore Mexico’s capital with your host, then take a day tour to the unmissable Teotihuacan pyramids.
From here we travel to Merida (4 nights), a city rich in Mayan heritage and the base for discovering the ornate Uxmal Pyramids. Our final stop in Mexico is Cancun (2 nights), a popular holiday spot on the Caribbean Riviera, home to Tulum and an abundance of Cenote (freshwater caves).
Leaving Mexico behind, we next fly to Guatemala City, and transfer to the heritage city of Antigua Guatemala (3 nights). Antigua is known as the best-preserved Spanish colonial city in Central America. Join your host in exploring the city and surrounding villages, nestled in their volcanic surroundings.
Moving on to north-Guatemala, our next venture is Flores (3 nights) – gateway to the Peten, Tikal and Yaxha. Experience these iconic ancient ruins in their jungle surrounds before crossing the border into Belize and travelling overland to San Ignacio (3 nights). San Ignacio is the heart of the Cayo region, and we’ll make like early explorers and head into the jungle.
Our homeward journey now begins, with overland travel to Belize City (1 night), followed by a flight to Los Angeles (1 night), and finally an overnight flight to Auckland, where we will be met by the YMAF van and driven to our Whangarei homes.
