Our expedition starts with pick up from our Whangarei homes and a drive to Auckland Airport, where we board a flight for the short trip to Sydney (3 nights). Our Sydney visit coincides with the annual Vivid Light Festival – see Sydney like you’ve never seen it before as the city is illuminated across different areas each night. By day, there’s something for everyone from markets to museums, all easily reachable with Sydney’s extensive public transport network.
Next we head further north to Darwin (4 nights) – Australia’s northernmost city. With plenty of time to explore this tropical city, we’ll delve into Darwin’s fascinating past and spectacular present. You may also choose to add on a day trip to one of Darwin’s national parks. In the city centre, your tour cost includes a Hop On/Hop Off bus ticket so you can get around the main attractions.
Darwin is also the boarding point for our adventure on the Ghan Expedition (3 nights), an icon of Australian travel and one of the world’s great train journeys. Across this four day, 2,979km odyssey we’ll experience some of the most remote and captivating parts of Australia in style and comfort. With a variety of off-train excursions at each port of call and ever-changing scenery, there’s never a dull moment on this train trip.
Our train ride concludes in Adelaide (4 nights), known as Australia’s parkland city. Take a stroll through one of the many parks in the city deemed one of the most walkable in the world or jump on a bus or tram to head further afield. Whilst in Adelaide we’ll take a day to visit Hahndorf – South Australia’s unique German settlement. For those wanting to add on something really special, how about a visit to Monarto Safari Park?
Finally, our journey concludes with a flight from Adelaide back to Auckland, where our YMAF driver will be waiting to convey us home to share memories of a lifetime.
