Hosted Tour: 8 days / 7 nights

Our journey starts with pick up from our Whangarei homes before heading south on State Highway 1. We’ll dip off the main drag to stop along the way at Pokeno and Cambridge and finish up the day in Taupo (3 nights). Combining both Alpine and Lakefront scenery, Taupo is a great spot in our own backyard. We’ll get up close to the powerful Huka Falls by river boat, enjoy the scenery of the Wairakei Terraces, followed by a soak in their beautifully sculpted hot pools, and enjoy the lovely township.

Day 4 see us head through to Rotorua (3 nights), taking a back road along the way to uncover some hidden gems of the region. In Rotorua we’ll experience the best of the land and water, with the Redwoods Forest, a cruise on the Lakeland Queen, and a wander through the iconic Government Gardens. Our time in Rotorua culminates with a visit to Te Puia Geothermal Valley for a guided tour, stunning cultural performance, and delicious buffet dinner including a traditional hangi.

On Day 7 we’ll start making our way home, but the fun isn’t over yet. We’ll break up the journey with a night in Hamilton (1 night). While in Hamilton we’ll visit the world class Botanic Gardens, and also enjoy an afternoon of tea and scones at NZ’s only Tea Estate – Zealong. The next day we’ll return home, stopping for some retail therapy along the way before arriving at our letterboxes.
