Day one we are picked up from our Whangarei Home, and drive to the Muriwai Gannet Colony – one of only 3 places in NZ where they nest on the mainland. After viewing the Muriwai Gannets, we drive to Riverhead to enjoy a bite to eat and a cold beverage at the Hallertau Brewery. Then we’ll carry on to Gulf Harbour to check into our accommodation. We finish the day with fish and chips by the water.
Day two starts off with breakfast, then it’s down to the Ferry Terminal to catch the 9.55am Ferry to Tiritiri Matangi. On the island we have a guide to show us some of the local flora & fauna, then we have time to wander the island. Lunch will be picnic style. We catch the 4pm ferry back to the mainland, and then back to our hotel. There’s time for a few pre-dinner drinks before heading out for dinner.
Day three starts off with breakfast, then we check out of our accommodation and drive to Sandspit where our ferry awaits to take us to Kawau Island. We’ll spend the day exploring Kawau, enjoy a BBQ lunch and visit Mansion House, Sir George Grey’s former home, and the gardens and landscape he created, together with sites and relics from the historic copper industry. In the afternoon we catch the return ferry to sandspit and drive back to our central Whangarei addresses.
