Hosted Tour: 5 days / 4 nights

We’ll star our tour with pick up from our central Whangārei homes, then drive to North Shore Airport for our short scenic flight to Great Barrier Island. After landing, we’ll transfer by van to our waterfront accommodation, where we’ll spend four nights at a comfortable 3‑star motel, our base for exploring the island.
During our stay, we have three full days of touring with local guides – discovering the vast beauty of the island by land and sea. Along the way, we’ll visit beautiful beaches, enjoy scenic walks, browse local art galleries, sample food from local eateries and producers, and uncover what has enticed the island inhabitants to seek this bohemian, off-grid island lifestyle.
Great Barrier Island is a place where nature can exist in it’s untamed form. Throughout our time on the island we’ll encounter some of the conservation centrepieces – from marine and wildlife reserves, where native species thrive in predator-free environments, to the magic of the night sky in one of the few internationally recognised Dark Sky Sanctuary areas.
At the end of our getaway, we’ll return to the airport for our flight back to the North Shore, then continue by van to Whangārei, arriving home in the late afternoon.
