On the morning of Day 1 we are collected from our Whangarei homes, and head to our Auckland Airport hotel (1 night). The next day we take the midday flight to Kuala Lumpur (1 night) before experiencing the historic UNESCO World Heritage city of Melaka (2 nights).
On Day 5 we fly to Sandakan and travel by road to we head to Sepilok (3 nights). Here, we visit an Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre where we will walk through the rainforest on wooden boardwalks to witness the feeding of the orangutans and visit an enclosed nursery area for young orangutans. Then we will move on to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about the conservation of the world’s smallest bear. We will also visit the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary and The Rainforest Discovery Centre where we take a bird’s eye view of the centre from the canopy walk and hanging bridge.
On Day 8 we embark on a 2½ hour boat journey along Sabah’s longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view birds and wildlife. We stay in two different Rainforest Lodges (3 nights) and over the next four days enjoy trips on the Kinabatangan River, Kelenanap Oxbow Lake and cruise along the Menanggol River in search of wildlife such as pygmy elephants, crocodiles and the amazing birdlife, monkeys and pf course orangutans. We will enjoy both sunrise and sunset river cruises.
After our time in the Rainforest Lodges, we return to Sandakan (1night) before flying back to Kuala Lumpur. We will have an overnight flight to Auckland, and on to our homes in Whangarei.
