It has become one of my “must stop” places on pretty much any tour that I take south from Whangarei or north from Auckland.

Eutopia Café never fails to elicit “ooohs”, and “ahhs”, and plenty of “wows” from any first time or even second time visitor.

On the main road through Kaiwaka, (as long as you are obeying the 60km speed limit) you can’t miss the surrealistic structure of Eutopia. A huge seagull stands guard over the entrance of swirling and curving walls and doors. This is more than just a quirky Café. Every inch is a carefully thought out piece of art from artists & owners Marijke Valkenburg and her partner, Robert ter Veer.

Every corner, every wall, every table leg is a canvas for Marijke and Robert’s creativity. Everywhere you look, wonderfully painted scenes of birds and mosaic patterns setting flight to your imagination. I highly recommend a stop here. Oh… And the coffee is really good, and the baking is delicious!
